God’s Mighty and Powerful Medicine
God’s Mighty and Powerful Medicine
This Word of God is filled with specific instructions pertaining to divine healing. These instructions will only benefit you if you obey them. “…be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth]” (James 1:22).
This passage of Scripture says that you must do what the Word of God tells you to do. You must “obey” God’s instructions. You will “betray yourself” if you only “listen” to these instructions. You can be deceived by Satan and his demons because of “reasoning contrary to the Truth.”
God’s Word is the Truth (see John 17:17). You must not attempt to receive divine healing from sickness through human reasoning that does not obey God’s specific instructions. You cannot expect to receive manifestation of healing if you merely read these instructions from God and fail to do what your Father tells you to do.
The instructions in the Word of God are God’s Medicine which is much more effective than any medicine in the world. No doctor in the world can prescribe a medicine that even remotely approaches the effectiveness of the Great Physician’s supernatural medicine.
If you have a holy Bible, you have in your possession the most powerful medicine that
exists, but you must partake of this medicine from God throughout every day and night until
you receive healing in your body. “He sends forth His Word and heals them…” (Psalm 107:20).
This passage of Scripture explains the medicinal healing power of the Word of God. When this passage of Scripture says that God sends His Word and heals you, it could accurately say that He sends His medicine and heals you.
“Keep my commandments and live, and keep my law and
teaching as the apple (the pupil) of your eye” (Proverbs 7:2).
God is telling you that the way to live is found in the Bible. You should be determined to “keep God’s commandments” – to follow His instructions exactly. When you speak of someone as “the apple of your eye,” you are speaking about someone who is very special to you. Your Father wants His Word to be “the apple of your eye.”
Every aspect of your life should revolve around the supernatural Word of God that should fill your heart to overflowing. You should be absolutely determined to partake continually of the magnificent spiritual medicine your Father has provided for you. He will give you specific scriptural instructions to tell you what to do to continually fill your mind and your heart with the supernatural medicine of the Word of God.
“A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works
healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones” (Proverbs 17:22).
You will have a “happy heart” regardless of the sickness in your body if you continually fill your heart with the mighty supernatural power of the living Word of God. A heart that is filled with God’s Word is filled with “good medicine” from God. You will have “a cheerful mind” if you obey your Father’s instructions to consistently renew your mind in His Word. Your happy heart and your cheerful mind ultimately will “work healing.”
You may have “a broken spirit” if you fail to obey your Father’s specific instructions. God says that a broken spirit will “dry up the bones.” You are much less likely to receive healing if you are worried and discouraged. Your Father is looking for you to exhibit deep, strong and unwavering faith in Him.
Some of the medicine that you purchase as a result of a doctor’s prescription carries a disclaimer. These prescriptions often warn you of potential side effects that could take place in your body if you take this medicine. You can be absolutely certain that there are no side effects to God’s medicine.
When a doctor gives you a prescription, you usually are limited as to how much of this medicine you can take. The Great Physician does not limit His medicine. You cannot overdose on God’s medicine. God’s medicine will never hurt you in any way. You can take as much of God’s medicine as you desire throughout every day and night of your life. You must not limit the amount of God’s medicine that you take.
The Great Physician tells you how often He wants you to take His medicine. Your Father does not want you to just take His medicine three or four times a day. Joshua 1:8 tells you to take God’s medicine throughout the “day and night.” Psalm 1:2 tells you to take God’s medicine “by day and by night.” II Corinthians 4:16 tells you to take God’s medicine “day after day.” Ephesians 4:23 tells you to take God’s medicine “constantly.” If you are very sick, you should take massive doses of God’s supernatural medicine throughout every day and night of your life.
The world’s medicine gives temporary relief, often with side effects. It does not address the symptoms unless it is taken internally. God’s medicine also will not work unless it gets inside of you. The Word of God is internal medicine.
Your Father’s prescription is to constantly fill your mind and
your heart with the medicine of His supernatural living Word.
You usually take the world’s medicine orally. Sometimes you receive this medication by a needle being injected into your skin. You take God’s medicine by constantly filling your eyes and your ears with the supernatural medicine of His living Word.
Some religious people cannot even begin to comprehend what the Word of God teaches about healing.
“…[although] they hold a form of piety (true religion), they deny and reject
and are strangers to the power of it [their conduct belies the genuineness of
their profession]. Avoid [all] such people [turn away from them]” (2 Timothy 3:5).
The word “piety” refers to pious people who are zealous in the area of religious ritual. These religious people may attend church regularly, but they “deny and reject and are strangers to the power of” the Word of God. You must “turn away” from ritualistic religious people who do not understand what the Bible says about healing.
If you are boldly speaking God’s Word, what you are saying will sound like a foreign language to your family members and friends who have not consistently renewed their minds in the Word of God. Do not be surprised if some of your family members and friends tell you that what you are doing is extreme. The scriptural principles we are talking about in this book are extreme from a worldly perspective. You have seen that God’s ways are very different from the ways of the world (see Isaiah 55:8-9).
You must not allow your family members, your unsaved relatives and your friends to talk you out of receiving healing from God. Do you allow your unsaved relatives and friends to talk you out of your eternal salvation through Jesus Christ? Do not allow unbelievers and religious people to sway your faith for divine healing. You should be just as certain of what God’s Word says about healing as you are about what God’s Word says about eternal salvation.
Your family and friends undoubtedly mean well, but they are wrong if they do not know what the Word of God says about healing. Unfortunately, many Christians who are sick allow their thinking to be distorted by the things that well-intentioned people say to them.
“Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not
in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes]…” (Psalm 1:1).
You will be “blessed” by the Great Physician if you do not follow the advice of people who have no knowledge of what the Word of God says about divine healing. These well-meaning people are totally indoctrinated into the world’s system of healing. You must not “follow their advice, their plans and their purposes” and ignore the specific instructions your Father has given you. Instead, you should do what the next two verses (Psalm 1:2-3) instruct you to do. You should meditate continually on the supernatural living Word of God.
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of
sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His
law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings
forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.
Many times over the years I have seen unbelievers or Christians who do not understand God’s principles of healing look incredulously at Christians who say they are healed while they obviously still had symptoms of sickness. These people were focusing on evidence from their senses instead of focusing on God. They were walking by sight, not by faith (2 Corinthians 5:7). These well-intentioned people were in the natural realm, not the spiritual realm. They will attempt to advise you according to the limitations of their human understanding.
Sometimes Christians are concerned that they may offend their friends and loved ones by emphatically obeying scriptural healing instructions that make no sense whatsoever to these people. If you are sick, you must establish your priorities. Why would you ever choose to turn away from God’s scriptural healing principles because you do not want to offend someone who is opposed to doing what God has instructed you to do?
Jesus understood the necessity of turning away from people who did not believe. You can see that He did this on one occasion when He went to a home where a little girl had been pronounced dead.
“Then He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue and saw a tumult and those who wept and
wailed loudly. When He came in, He said to them, “Why make this commotion and weep? The child is not
dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him. But when He had put them all outside, He took the father and
the mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and entered where the child was lying.” (Mark 5:38-40).
Jesus did not want to be surrounded by people who did not believe He could raise this child from the dead. Jesus “put them all out.” He did not want their unbelief to be present. He then went into the little girl’s bedroom and raised her from the dead. “Gripping her [firmly] by the hand, He said to her, Talitha cumi—which translated is, Little girl, I say to you, arise [from the sleep of death]! And instantly the girl got up and started walking around—for she was twelve years old. And they were utterly astonished and overcome with amazement” (Mark 5:41-42).
You must not allow other people’s doubt and unbelief to pull you down when you are sick.
You cannot afford to be influenced by people who do not understand what the Bible says about healing. We are talking about your life. Refuse to allow these people to influence you with their unscriptural beliefs. These people are the same people who will come to your funeral if you die prematurely because you listened to their traditional beliefs instead of turning away from doubt and unbelief to place all of your faith in Jesus Christ and doing all that you can to enable your body to heal itself.
Jesus is your personal Savior. Jesus is your personal Healer. You must not allow what other people think to affect your deep, strong and unwavering faith in Jesus as your Healer. These people are talking about your body. They are talking about your health. Be determined to do what God tells you to do to receive manifestation of the healing that Jesus already has provided for you.
