Thought Conditioners - The Power of Our Words

The Power of Our Words – Thought Conditioners

Thought Conditioners - The Power of Our Words

Overview
You can’t talk the same way you used to talk before you came to Christ. You can’t walk around saying, “Well, I can’t afford it, I don’t have time, I’m so tired, my back hurts so bad; it’s killing me. If my back doesn’t kill me, this migraine headache will bury me. And if that doesn’t do me in, my asthma, bursitis or ulcer will get me.”

Why can’t you talk like that? Because Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”

When God declares a thing, it frames the universe around Him, and this same principle works in our lives also.

Romans 4:17 says that God calls things that are not, as though they were. When God looked out over the universe in Genesis 1, He didn’t say, “Woo! It’s dark out there! Man, it’s really dark!” No. God said, “Let there be light,” and light was. God looked at the darkness and spoke light into existence.

Isn’t it interesting how in the first chapter of Genesis, over and over again it says, “God said and said and said.” Hebrews 11:3 says, By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God. And because you are created in God’s likeness and image, He wants your words to come into alignment with His Word.

So if you say things like, “Well, we’ve just been in debt, I was born in debt, my parents were in debt, I was raised in debt; I can’t afford that” and so forth, you just framed your world with debt upon debt. And as long as you keep talking that way about finances, you will live that way.

But when you begin to say, “I’m financially prospering, I don’t live in debt, all of my needs are met, I have all sufficiency for all things, I’m reaping abundantly, God gives me the power to get wealth, God’s favor is on my finances,” you are only obeying what God’s Word says and framing your life with God’s supernatural best.

Hung by the Tongue
If we want to start seeing the power of God manifest in our lives, we will have to start paying attention to what we say. Words have power—more than any of us realize, but we often speak them as though they are meaningless. Because of that, most believers at one time or another have been “hung by their tongue.”

Matthew 12:36-37 says, “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”

You must realize that the words that are most effective in bringing
breakthrough in your life are words from your heart that you speak
with your mouth. No one else can meditate on the Word of God for you.

The things you speak consistently are what will come to pass
in your life. What you continually say with your mouth is what
you believe in your heart. Your words are your faith speaking.

Choose Wisely
The battle is right between your ears. It’s not out there somewhere in the heavenly places. It’s in your head. Every word you speak either releases life or death. Words that are based on and are in line with the Word of God release life. Words that are inconsistent with what God says minister death.

Every word you speak and every word you hear are either producing
life or death.

It’s either life or death, one or the other. What are you listening to? What are you saying?

Death or Life?
Proverbs 18:21 says that the tongue has the power of death or life. Notice that it didn’t say there was also a multitude of nonproductive vain words. No! Every word we speak releases either life or death. There is no middle ground. Jesus said in Matthew 12:36, “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” We need to watch our words!

James said that the tongue is like a bit in a horse’s mouth or a rudder on a ship that steers the vessel (James 3:3-4). We wouldn’t get in a vehicle that we didn’t have the ability to steer. That’s suicide! Likewise, a person who has no control over their words is headed for destruction.

There are many distinguishing characteristics between human beings and the animal creation. Certainly, one of the most important differences that sets us apart is our ability to speak. That gives us creative power. God spoke the world and the universe into existence.  And we influence our own environments and circumstances by the words we say.

With this creative power comes responsibility. Our words have the power to bless or curse, to give life or release death. Sadly, the majority of people are using the negative power of their tongues instead of the positive. We need to pray the prayer of David that says, “Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips” (Ps. 141:3).

Speak to Your Mountain
“Whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith,” (Mark 11:23).

If there is a mountain in your way, don’t ask God to do something about it. You speak to it. You speak to the sickness or disease. You speak to the symptom coming at your body: “Pain, I speak to you in the Name of Jesus and I command you to leave my body. Arthritis, I speak to you in Jesus’ name and I command you to leave my body.” “I believe I receive healing for my body from the top of my head to the soles of my feet,”

The Most Effective Words
You can learn a great deal when other people teach you the Word of God. There is no question that other people can help you to get the Word of God into your mind. However, you must realize that the words that are most effective in bringing breakthrough in your life are words from your heart that you speak with your mouth. No one else can meditate on the Word of God for you.

You should speak with conviction and expectation when you meditate on Scripture. You can be certain that the words from God you are meditating on are absolute truth. The words you speak should constantly show the unwavering expectancy you have that you will receive manifestation of the provision from God that already has been provided for you by Jesus Christ.

When you meditate on a promise from God, you visualize this specific promise as being fulfilled in your life. If you faithfully obey your Father’s instructions to meditate on His Word throughout the day and night, you are constantly visualizing manifestation of the blessing in your life. Your mouth is opening continually to speak words of faith based on these supernatural promises from Almighty God.

The amplification of the word “meditate” in Psalm 1:2 says that you should “ponder and study by day and night.” When you ponder God’s Word you think deeply about what your loving Father is saying to you. You continually fill your eyes, your ears, your mind, your heart and your mouth with specific words that come from God Himself.

As you meditate on the Word of God you change “logos” which is the written Word of God into “Rhema” which is the spoken Word of God that is quickened and made alive and active. When you study the Word of God, you focus entirely on logos. Logos is a spiritual seed. Your spoken words become Rhema as you continually speak the Word of God while you meditate.

You release enormous spiritual power when you speak the Word of God
with faith as you meditate on it. The cumulative effect of speaking these
words from God again and again will significantly increase your faith in God.

You release the supernatural power of Almighty God when you continually personalize Scripture, speaking it boldly. The cumulative effect of this meditation is enormous. As this renewal process continues over days, weeks and months the Scripture you are meditating on will rise up inside of you. This Scripture will become more and more real to you. You will become certain that you will receive the provision that Jesus has provided for you.

When you meditate constantly on the Word of God this process actually downloads Scripture from heaven. When you meditate on the Word of God you program yourself continually in a manner that is similar to programming a computer except that you are invoking the power of God. You never should neglect the precious opportunity you have been given to program yourself throughout every day and night with words from God that will help you to receive manifestation of the provision Jesus already has provided for you.

Faith in Two Places
What happens when your heart gets so full it starts to overflow? Look at Matthew 12:34 and you’ll see. It says, “…out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”

A key principle of God’s divine prescription is to speak, not words of sickness and disease, discouragement and despair, but words of healing and life, faith and hope.  You are to “Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee” (Proverbs 4:24). In short, you are to speak the words of God.

When you start speaking the Word, you’ll sneeze and say, “I resist you, cold! I call myself healed, in Jesus’ Name! I believe I’m taking healing!” 😊

That will sound so different to other people. That’s ok. Talk the Word anyway because for faith to work it must be in two places—in your heart and in your mouth. “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:10).

Some people say faith will move mountains. But, the scriptural truth is, faith won’t even move a molehill for you unless you release it with the words of your mouth.

The Lord Jesus told us that “Whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith,” (Mark 11:23). Notice the word “say” appears three times in that verse while the word believe appears only once. Obviously, Jesus wanted us to know that our words are crucial.

It’s also important to note that He did not instruct us to talk about the mountain, He instructed us to talk to it! If

we’re going to obey Him, we must talk to the mountain of sickness and cast it out of our lives. The Lord told Charles Capps, I have told My people they can have what they say, but they are saying what they have! Instead of saying, “I’m healed,” most Christians say, “I’m sick,” and reinforce the sickness or disease.

Be Like Abraham
“But it bothers me to say I’m healed when my body still feels sick!” It shouldn’t. It didn’t bother Abraham. He went around calling himself the Father of Nations for years even though he was as childless as could be. Why did he do it? Because “he believed…God, who quickens the dead, and calls those things which be not as though they were” (Romans 4:17). He was “fully persuaded that, what [God] had promised, he was able also to perform” (verse 21).

You see, Abraham wasn’t “trying” to believe God. He wasn’t just mentally ascending to it. He had immersed himself in God’s Word until that Word was more real to him than the things he could see. It didn’t matter to him that he was 100 years old. It didn’t matter to him that Sarah was far past the age of childbearing and that she had been barren all her life. All that mattered to him was what God said, because he knew His Word was true.

Believe, Declare, Act
The unseen spiritual world is just as real as the natural world that we observe through our physical senses. We are taught that we don’t have to out shout the devil or out muscle our demons to be free from his influence. We just have to out–truth them. Believe, declare, and act upon the truth of God’s word, and we will thwart Satan’s strategy.  God’s truth will disarm satan’s lies just as surely as light dispels darkness – we take the shield of faith and quench every fiery dart from the evil one.

One of the greatest ways to help yourself grow into
maturity in Christ is to continually remind yourself who
you are in Him. Proclaim God’s Word and your victory when
you think Satan
is trying to deceive you into believing his lies.

God’s Word – Supernatural Seed
Our words are vital in determining how we deal with the affairs of life. Consider these two verses examining the power of our words.

First, Proverbs 12:6 says, “The mouth of the upright shall deliver them.” Then verse 14 states, “A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth.” We’ve already seen that we are to keep God’s Word in our mouths (Joshua 1:8). But how can the fruit of our mouths effect deliverance in our lives and satisfy us with good things?

God gives us the answer to that question: “For as the rain and snow come down from the heavens, and return not there again, but water the earth and make it bring forth and sprout… So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth.” (Isaiah 55:10 AMP).

Just as the rain comes down from heaven, soaks into the earth and makes it bring forth and bud, so shall God’s Word be: It shall not return to Me void [without producing any effect, useless], but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it (Isaiah 55:11, AMP).

Thank God, we have His wisdom and His Word written down for us so that we can be as full of that supernatural seed as we want to be. We may be limited in how much money we can deposit in our bank accounts. But if we have a Bible, we are not limited in how much Word we can deposit in our hearts!

God has given us scriptures of blessing and promise—supernatural seed to be planted in the good soil of our hearts and then spoken out of our mouths in faith. Faith released in the spiritual realm brings tangible substance in the natural realm (Hebrews 11:1).

We are to speak forth the Word abiding in our hearts. As we do, we will bring forth substance—wisdom, healing, provision or deliverance—from the spirit realm into this natural realm. We will be satisfied with good by the fruit of our mouths (Proverbs 12:14).

As we speak God’s wisdom and power into our daily affairs, our lives will be transformed. That’s how the mouth of the upright delivers them!

Few people realize the power they release just by speaking words. Proverbs 18 talks about the power of the tongue, both for good and for evil, and how we can unleash that power to effect good in our lives.

Filled With the Fruit of Your Mouth
A man’s [moral] self shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; and with the consequence of his words he must be satisfied [whether good or evil] (Proverbs 18:20, AMP).

If you don’t like the way your life is going right now, you are going to have to change. You see, God isn’t going to change. The devil isn’t going to change. And if the world changes, it’s only going to be for the worse.

But you can change. You can begin to spend more time with God. As you draw closer to Him, in prayer and in His Word, your lips will begin to speak right words that will bring good things to pass in your life.

We know that our words have the ability to affect our futures because the Scriptures say our tongues determines whether we reap death or life: Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life] (v. 21, AMP).

You can cause either blessing or cursing to come into your own life through your tongue. With that one little member of your body, you can set into motion spiritual laws that will affect the course of your life either for good or for evil. (James 3:1-12).

It’s up to you to discipline your tongue and cause it to agree with God’s Word. When you
speak God’s Word, you bring good into your life that neither the devil nor the world can stop.

Now you can understand why He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from troubles (Proverbs 21:23, AMP). Troubles can be the bitter fruit a person must eat (or the unpleasant consequences a person must experience) when he doesn’t discipline his mouth to agree with God’s Word. For example, the Bible says a fool is someone who speaks whatever is on his mind: A [self-confident] fool’s mouth is his ruin, and his lips are a snare to himself.  (Proverbs 18:7, AMP).

What You Say is Important
Obviously, words are very important to our success in life. We have already seen in Proverbs that there isn’t much promise for a fool. But the Bible says even the fool has more hope than someone who is hasty with his words (Proverbs 29:20).

So if you love life, you will guard your tongue: For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile (1 Peter 3:10).

Whether or not you believe that words are powerful doesn’t change the facts.

What you say with your mouth does sow seed, and one day you will reap the
harvest of that seed. So if you aren’t happy with the way your life is today, put the
Word of God in your mouth—and you’ll see His desired results come to pass in your life.

When we speak God’s Word, we know that we are going to come out right in the end. Make your words agree with what God says and with what you want to come to pass. If you don’t want poverty and lack, don’t speak it into your life with your words.

Your faith is released through your words. At times, that can be hard to do. For example, when the pressure is on and the bank account is low, you may become discouraged. You may be tempted to start talking lack and defeat. But don’t give in to that. Just remember that God is your Source and like the psalmist says, I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread (Psalm 37:25).

Give Your Angels Words to Hearken To
God gives His angels charge over you to protect you, keep you and minister to you. They have been charged to hearken to God’s Word spoken in faith (Psalm 103:20).

However, you have to put God’s promises of deliverance in your heart and in your mouth to give the angels the voice of the Word they need to protect and deliver you. You have to refuse to speak words that are contrary to what you believe.

Jesus taught that your future is stored up in your heart: For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him (Matthew 12:34-35, NIV). In fact, He said, what you believe in your heart and say with your mouth, you will have in your life (Mark 11:23).

I know it is difficult for some to believe that our words carry this kind of power and authority. But here are two more places in Proverbs where this wisdom is given:

The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble. A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth…. A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence. He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction (Proverbs 12:13-14; 13:2-3).

Make it a practice to speak only words of faith. When you are under pressure, it will be tough sometimes—but you can do it! With practice it becomes normal for you to speak words of faith instead of unbelief. When you answer every doubt and fear with what God’s Word says about your situation, your angels will hearken to the voice of His Word and minister to you if you are an heir of salvation (Hebrews 1:14).

Spiritual Law
Many people desire to be healed but speak forth all kinds of negative things. They say what the doctor told them, what their body feels like, what other people’s opinions are, and then wonder why they aren’t seeing God’s healing power manifest in their life. Spiritual laws are in place and functioning!

(Example of laws of gravity and electricity…. can be used for good or harm….) Whether you lacked understanding or willfully chose not to cooperate doesn’t really matter. The results are the same because you violated the law. God didn’t do it; you killed yourself!  In the same way, people violate the laws of faith and kill themselves by speaking words of unbelief!

God will not suspend His laws—natural or spiritual—just because you meant well!

The Lord commands us to speak to our problem. This is a truth from the Word of God most people have missed. Speak to the mountain!

Most Christians speak to God about their mountain instead of speaking to their mountain about God! The “mountain” represents whatever your problem is. Jesus declared, “Speak to your mountain and command it to be cast into the sea!” The average Christian prays, “God, I have this mountain. Would You please move it for me?” The Lord told you to talk to it, not to Him. Whatever it is—speak to it!

Take No Thought
God’s Word says, “Neither give place to the devil,” (Eph. 4:27). You are the one who gives Satan inroads into your life. He takes whatever “place” you give him through your thoughts, words, emotions, and actions. Your emotions can give Satan a place. Satan will take advantage of whatever we give him. We are often hung by our own tongue.

Satan passes thoughts, feelings, and attitudes across our hearts and minds. So how do we prevent these seeds from taking root, beginning to grow, and then producing the negative crop he desires? We just saw how—we “take no thought, saying.”

If you don’t say it, then it’s not yours. However, the moment you start verbalizing and speaking forth these negative things, they become yours and begin releasing this negative power in your life. You need to take on this attitude: “I refuse to speak forth anything contrary to what I’m believing for.”

Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Proverbs 18:21

You can’t only just speak life with your tongue. You can also speak death. Sadly, the truth is that most of us release much more death than life. We counter ourselves with our own words. We’re hung by the tongue!

Words Are Important
You may be praying for one thing and then speaking against it.  You may be praying for restoration in your marriage, yet you constantly criticize, beat down, and speak negatively about your marriage on the other hand. You are releasing a negative spiritual force—death—that will counter what you’re praying for. Even though God wants to move on your behalf and restore, you’re releasing a contrary spiritual force with those negative words.

You need to be constantly aware of the truth that your words are either releasing life or releasing death. Don’t just allow anything to come out of your mouth. Set a watch over your mouth and speak life (Ps. 141:3), because you will eat the fruit of it.  “A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.”  Proverbs 18:20

Every word you say out of your mouth is a seed that produces after its kind. If you are griping, complaining, and speaking forth all this negativity, then that’s the kind of fruit you’ll wind up eating from those words.

Blinded to the Truth
In this spiritual battle, Satan takes advantage of the words we say. “For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.” Matthew 12:37

When we don’t realize just how important our words are, we speak forth foolishness, doubt, unbelief, and other things that allow Satan to devour us because we let down our guard.

Spiritual Law Part 2
Although there are many different spiritual laws, one of them that governs whether you receive from God or not is the power of your words.  The woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5 started putting some of the spiritual laws of God into effect when she said, “If I may but touch the hem of His garment, I shall be made whole.” When she did, the power of God began to flow. Jesus didn’t size her up and evaluate her worthiness. God’s power flows when we cooperate with the spiritual laws of His kingdom.

A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.  (Prov 18:20,21) Although many different scriptures reveal the importance of our words (see Matt. 12:34-37; James 3; Mark 11), this verse clearly reveals that both death and life are in the power of the tongue.

When we’re trying to receive a healing from the Lord, many of us ignore this law and say, “I’ve heard people talk about this name it and claim it, blab it and grab it group who tell people they can have what they say. They say you’re supposed to say you’re healed when you don’t feel healed. Well, I just don’t believe in that stuff.”

So when somebody asks, “How are you?” the person they ask says, “Well, I’m dying. I only have a week to live. The doctor told me it’s terrible. I feel so bad.” This individual is releasing death with their mouth through their negative speech. Yet, they’ll go to the Lord in “prayer” and say, “Oh, God. Heal me, if it be Your will.” Then when they don’t see a physical healing manifest, they get upset with God as if He failed.

There are laws that govern how to receive healing.
One of them is you will have what you say. (Mark 11:23)

Wood or Copper?
You can’t speak death out of your mouth and expect to receive life. It doesn’t work that way. You might say, “I just don’t believe that.” Fine. That’s just like a person saying, “I just don’t believe that copper is a better conductor of electricity than wood. I’m going to wire my house with wood, not copper.”

When they plug the electricity into the connection of wood, I guarantee the power isn’t going to flow. It won’t run your lights, appliances, or air conditioning. You may not like this, but it’s how God established these laws.

Faith flows through words. Words release either death or life, but your ignorance of this law doesn’t mean that the law is going to change. You can declare, “I can say whatever I want to and it doesn’t make any difference.” That’s not true. It’s not how the spiritual laws of the kingdom operate any more than wood is a better conductor of electricity than copper. It’s not up to you to make the laws. You just need to discover what they are and then enforce them.

Learn to Speak Life
Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and he thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Mark 11:22, 23

Faith is released by words. It’s one of the laws that govern faith. Death and life—not just life only—are in the power of your tongue.

If you’ve been born again, you have the faith of the Son of God. Since most Christians don’t know this, they don’t use it. The few who do believe, still may not see it work properly because they don’t understand and cooperate with these laws that govern faith.

If your doctor told you that you’re going to die soon, your words will affect what you receive. If you knew that God had already healed you and you’re trying to believe, your words will determine what you experience.

Heart and Mouth Together
“For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:10

It’s only when the heart and mouth work together in faith that the confession is brought to pass. The reason why people don’t drop over dead when they use a slang expression like “It tickles me to death!” is because they didn’t mean it in their hearts. I’m not saying it’s good to continue using such an expression, but it didn’t come to pass because the words weren’t what the heart truly believed.

Regardless of how this truth has been misrepresented and abused, it’s still a truth. Many Christians are missing out on what God has provided for them in the spirit because they aren’t using their words properly. You must learn to speak life instead of death!

Speak to the Mountain
But just speaking your faith isn’t enough; you must also speak directly to the mountain. “Whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed…” (Mark 11:23).

Most Christians are busy talking to God about their mountain instead of talking to their mountain about God. The mountain is your problem, or whatever you want to see changed. Speak to it!

Don’t say, “O God, I’m sick. Please take this disease from me!” or “Father, please remove this debt.” That’s a violation of what this scripture is telling you to do. You’re talking to God about your mountain.

Speak to the sickness. Talk to your bills. Address your depression, or whatever else the problem may be. Tell it that God has already set you free. Then, command it to leave you alone.

Exercise Your Authority
Words are important! You can’t speak death, discouragement, defeat, and depression and then expect to receive blessings. It’s not going to work! Why? One of the laws that govern faith states that you will have what you say. Not only must you believe God’s Word in your heart and speak in agreement with it from your mouth, you must also speak directly to your problem and command it to get in line.

Thank God for what He’s already done, and then command your body to quit hurting, your finances to work, the devil to get off your case, etc. Take your authority and use it. These are some of the laws that govern faith.

You already have the faith of the Son of God. You just need to learn how to use it.

Once you understand how it works and begin to cooperate, you’ll start seeing results.

No Wicked Thing
There are times in life when we just feel like speaking forth our negative thoughts and emotions. In light of the spiritual battle, however, these are times we must exercise our faith and self-control.  In Matthew 6:31, the Lord reveals to us at what point we take a thought for our own: Take no thought, saying… A thought becomes your own when you begin speaking it out of your mouth.

You can’t keep all kinds of thoughts from coming across your mind…..but you can keep from taking those thoughts as your own.  Negative thoughts will come at times, but you don’t have to receive them. They don’t have to become a part of you. If you don’t say it, it won’t be yours.

Aggressively Receiving
I’m not just asking and pleading with Him to do something; I’m aggressively receiving what’s already been done, and I’m standing against Satan who’s hindering the manifestation. I’m taking my authority, speaking to the mountain, and commanding things to happen!

Positioned to Receive
God has already done everything to heal everyone. It’s not a matter of asking the Lord to heal, but rather our receiving the healing He’s already given. That’s the basic principle, but there are laws that govern how it works. You have to speak. So I talk to the specific parts of people’s bodies and command them to respond. I take authority over the devil. Sometimes I do things to quicken the other person’s faith. I don’t do all of these things to manipulate God but to help people move into a position to receive.

…..that’s when I took authority and spoke to the mountain. (Mark 11:23.) Most people don’t speak directly to their problem. Instead, they talk to God about it. The Word says to speak to the mountain!

Mark 11
That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

This wasn’t limited to a fig tree. He used a mountain as an example, but I believe it could apply to anything. He was making the point that if we say it with our mouths and believe it in our hearts, we can have what we say.

He also made it very clear who qualified to use words in this way: He said, “whosoever shall say.” Are you a whosoever? Because if you are and if you’re breathing, then you’re qualified, and your words can affect the natural as well as the spiritual world.

Jesus used the word “say” or “saith” three times in verse 23. He was making it clear that words have power. But He also said to have faith in God. The words that have power are words that are filled with faith. And it’s important to understand that the faith they’re filled with is not your human faith.

Proverbs 23:7 says that as you think in your heart, so are you, and Luke 6:45 says that what you speak comes from the abundance of your heart. In other words, the way that you think controls the way that you talk. And if you understand that your words have power, then you understand why you can be hung by your tongue.

Same Spirit of Faith
We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak… For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. (2 Cor. 4:13,17,18)

The unseen realm is the power realm. The unseen is governed by God’s eternal principles. Here is the principle that God has ordained. God used it all through the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. It’s the principle that Jesus used in all of His ministry. It’s the principle of calling things that are not as though they were. We find Paul’s account of God doing this in Romans 4.

As it is written, I have made you a father of many nations, before him whom he believed, even God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they were. (Rom. 4:17)

God calls things that are not manifest as though they were manifest. Compare this with what the Apostle Paul said, “God has chosen the things which are not, to bring to naught things that are.” (1 Corinthians 1:28.) This is God’s method. Call for eternal forces that put to naught things that are seen. Call into manifestation the things that are not, and they will replace what is manifest.

Paul said that we should overcome evil with good. When you start talking about calling things that are not as though they were, some people get the idea you are denying what exists. Some believe that confessing the answer is denying the things that exist. But confessing the answer is not denying what exists; it is the principle of calling things that are not as though they were.

What About Your Health?
What if you always say things like, “My back is killing me. And my migraine, it seems to be worse today. Oh, and let me tell you about my asthma—man, is it acting up. It’s October, and my sinuses always act up. In November, my bursitis starts flaring up. It does every year. And you know, in December, I always get those winter colds.” When you speak as if sickness is a normal part of your life, it will be.

If you look in the medicine cabinet of people who speak like that, you’ll see that they look like a drugstore. Why? Because those people believe daily for sickness. They frame their world with sickness. They expect sickness, so they confess sickness.

When they walk into their offices, they start framing their offices with their sickness: “Man, I had a tough week, and a headache knocked me out. Then my back went out.” And someone else will get in on it. “I know what you’re saying. I can relate to that. I got some of these new pills. You ever tried these?”

But if that same office worker knew the power of words, he would show up for work saying, “I just want you all to know I’m healed, from the top of my head to the soles of my feet. I just want you all to know I’m feeling good. I’m blessed. I think I’ll just go ahead and live healthy for about 120 years.”

And as soon as those words came out of his mouth, the others in the office would grumble and say, “What in the world is wrong with you?” Why? Because it really ticks the devil’s crowd off when you go framing your world with your words. Now isn’t it sad that if you confess your pains, you’re normal. But if you confess your health, you’re weird.

When you’re a new creation in Christ, you need to talk like the new you! You need to start talking words like: “He Himself bore my sins on the tree that I might die unto sin and live unto righteousness, for by His stripes I have been healed! (1 Peter 2:24.) I’m healed and I’m whole, in the name of Jesus. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! (Phil. 4:13.) With long life He satisfies me and lets me behold His salvation! (Ps. 91:16.) I have time to do everything I want to do and live like I want to live.”

You need to talk God’s promises to let the power of God’s Word confirm His blessings in your life. You need to be speaking the blessing over your life and saying things like, “My marriage is healthy; my relationship is strong,” instead of, “I don’t understand what’s going on with my wife. Who could understand women anyway? My God, it gives me a headache!” Because you were made in God’s image, you’ve got to guard your tongue.

Be bold in your speech – frame your world with God’s will and He will back you up.

Victory for the believer comes in knowing and choosing God’s truth.

“Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies, nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand, in her left hand are riches and honor.”
Proverbs 3:13 – 16
